About Homestead Flowers
With a long background in horticulture and over ten years of growing cut flowers for a local manor house, I started Homestead Flowers after a friend asked me to flower her wedding. An abundance of blooms gave me the confidence to contact local florists, offering my flowers as a sustainable alternative to imported ones, and the response was hugely positive. I had always created ‘garden-gathered’ style bouquets for friends and family, so incorporating this into the business felt like a natural progression.
Homestead is the house my family and I moved to nine years ago. Once a family small-holding, we have spent our time gradually transforming the space, aiming to maintain a balance between managed areas and wild, untamed ones—a tricky equilibrium to achieve! The property now includes an orchard, a kitchen garden, and borders filled with shrubs, perennials, annuals, and grasses, all of which are used in my bouquets or added to Florists’ and Arrangers’ Buckets. We also have a designated cutting field and a polytunnel, both of which we plan to expand in 2025.
We grow as organically and sustainably as possible, avoiding weed killers and insecticides. The cutting field is a shared space with bees, butterflies, hoverflies, toads, frogs, a myriad of bird species, and, of course, the occasional slug and snail. Being passionate about the environment, I ensure that all bouquets are fully home compostable, including their packaging. If flowers require a water source, I use glass vases that can be reused many times.
Homestead Flowers is a family-run business. I manage the growing, planting, and cutting of orders, while my husband helps with tasks like shifting compost, building potting benches, and occasionally delivering bouquets on his electric bike. Our two adult sons pitch in as well, assisting with website creation, watering, and mowing and helping cut the flowers during busy periods.
