About Homestead Flowers
Coming from a long background in horticulture, and growing cut flowers for a local manor house for over 10 years, I created Homestead Flowers after a friend asked me to flower her wedding. An over abundance of blooms gave me the confidence to contact local florists to use my flowers as an alternative to using imported flowers and the response I received was hugely positive. I've always created 'garden gathered' style bouquets for friends and family so this seemed a natural add on to the business too.
Homestead is the house we moved to as a family nine years ago. Once a neglected one acre small-holding, we have spent our time slowly transforming this space. It now contains an orchard, a kitchen garden, and borders containing a mix of shrubs, perennials, annuals and grasses that are used in my bouquets or to add to Florists or Arrangers Buckets. There is now designated cutting field and polytunnel too and this will be expanded on during 2023.
We grow as organically and as sustainably as possible, we don't use weed killers or spray with insecticides. The cutting field is shared with bees, butterflies, hoverflies, toads, frogs, a myriad of bird species and obviously the odd slug and snail! Being passionate about the environment means that all my bouquets are fully home compostable including all packaging. If flowers need a water source then I will use a glass vase that can be reused many times over.
Homestead Flowers is a family run business, I'm in charge of growing, planting and cutting your orders, but behind the scenes I have a husband who helps shift compost, make potting benches, delivers the odd bouquet on his electric bike, and two adult sons who help with website creation, watering and mowing.
